"The Art Of Peace (Aikido) begins with you. Work on yourself and your appointed task in the Art of Peace. Everyone has a spirit that can be refined, a body that can be trained in some manner, a suitable path to follow. You are here for no other purpose than to realize your inner divinity and manifest your innate enlightenment. Foster Peace in your own life and then apply the Art to all that you encounter."
Morihei Ueshiba, O Sensei
Founder of Aikido, 1883 - 1969
The Founder, Morihei Ueshiba, saw Aikido as a form of Peaceful Self-Defense. There are no aggressive moves, kicks or strikes in Aikido. The Aikidoka (one who practices Aikido) learns to move out of the way of an attack, blending with it and defusing it.
The Founder saw Aikido as being the Path of Peace incorporating the physical arts of self defense as well as mental and spiritual discipline. Practice in the physical arts leads to applying the principles learned to create greater harmony and peace in the world.
"By constantly striving to further understand the fundamentals of Aikido, we will eventually have a better knowledge of the oneness of the universe."
Roderick Kobayashi
Founder of Seidokan Aikido, 1932 - 1995
Seidokan Aikido is an international organization of Aikido instructors and dojos, founded by the late Roderick Kobayashi, Sensei. It is presently under the guidance of Stewart Chan, Kancho. As an organization, we are dedicated to the Sincere and Realistic practice of Aikido.
The objectives of Seidokan Aikido are to study the philosophy and arts of Aikido and to further develop them to best suit the modern way of life. The teaching and practice of techniques is only one part of training. Real life situations are discussed and practiced throughout training. The Aikidoka, through sincere and realistic training, becomes able to apply the principles of Aikido to their daily life.
